There are few Christmas decorations more admired than the star. Bright stars have been associated with Christmas from the very beginning. The shining star of Bethlehem outshone all the other stars on the first Christmas, revealing the location of the Christ child to the magi. Considered wise men, the three foreign magi gave the first Christmas gifts when they presented gold, frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus.

Gold was an obvious treasure, but why were frankincense and myrrh considered valuable? These two items, recognised as riches at the time, were coveted for their intoxicating fragrances. Frankincense is a milky white resin extracted from the Boswellia tree, which is found in Somalia, Oman and Yemen. Myrrh is a reddish resin, which comes from the Commiphora tree found in Ethiopia, Kenya, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Somalia. Frankincense and Myrrh are still popular today for their alluring aromas.

Without that first special star, the magi would not have found the Christ child and bestowed their precious gifts upon him. This lovely light display features five flashing five-point stars, outlined by a rope light silhouette. The multi-coloured stars are a beautiful addition to any set of Christmas decorations. The display measures 300mm x 270mm x 6 metres. The flashing illumination option may be turned off or on. Rubber cabling connects each star, which comes together with a hook for easy hanging.

Stars are one of the most popular of all Christmas decorations, most likely due to their association with the first Christmas. Even planetariums enjoy a spike in visitors who want to learn more about stars during the Christmas season. No Christmas display, whether at home or at your place of business, is complete without decorations that feature stars.
