The end of the 18^th century saw the mass production of miniature toy soldiers, mostly in Europe, making them more affordable for more people. The miniatures were also used as Christmas decorations for trees and in holiday scenes on mantel tops. By the 20^th century, toy soldier production had spread to other parts of the world. Once plastic was invented, and lead in metals became a health concern, inexpensive packs of plastic toy soldiers were produced and then purchased in droves by parents of boys to use as stocking stuffers. Baby boomers in particular have fond memories of hours spent fighting imaginary battles with toy soldiers.
