There’s a real sparkle about this set that always has us feeling nostalgic. The gold ‘Holiday Express’ locomotive lights up with a working headlamp, pulls five beautifully-decorated carriages and launches straight ahead with all the clackety-clack rhythm you could want. Bright red and green are the main colours, with classic accents in black, brown, silver and gold - cheerful and traditional, but bold enough to work with a modern tree too.
The station really completes it. One push of the button and you’re treated to snippets from favourite Christmas tunes like “Jingle Bells”, accompanied by animation on the train itself as it makes its way round a huge 2.62 metre x 82cm oval track. There’s enough track included for you to change it up if you fancy a square or circle shape one year too.
Real fans will recognise the ‘1225’ Pere Marquette - this legendary engine was built in 1941 and still draws big crowds every December at heritage museums in Michigan. It’s brought to life here (if perhaps in slightly smaller form) with authentic domes and rods and really lovely decal stickers along the side.
The carriages include everything from a black coal tender to an adorable gift car with removable present box. And each carriage features its own festive sign sticker so everything looks spot on when set up under your tree. We’ve found these suit almost any style - vintage-inspired rooms, minimalist lounge rooms with white trees - even eclectic homes where maximalism reigns.
A fun extra touch? The kit also comes with fourteen signal signs plus five light posts so little ones (and curious adults) can roleplay as stationmasters or setup their own mini world under the tree. You might lose yourself for hours arranging it all just-so!
Total set includes one locomotive, five carriages, twelve curved tracks, ten straight tracks, station, signs and posts - all up six metres of track to experiment with! Assembling is pretty straightforward but we recommend taking your time over hot chocolate or mulled wine for maximum holiday vibes.
This one’s suitable for everyone aged three years up because there are small parts involved - batteries aren’t included but last all season long with intermittent play (especially if you limit full rotations to certain evenings). If you’d like something colourful and cheerful that captures a bit of old-fashioned Christmas excitement for your family home this year, we think you’ll really enjoy this musical train set gliding around the lounge room as everyone opens presents together on Christmas morning.
