    The origin of the reindeer as a symbol of Christmas is not exactly certain but one school of thought has it that it started by featuring in Christmas decorations and celebrations in the 1800s. The reindeer was made popular by a poem by Clement Moore from the USA, entitled 'A Visit from St Nicholas', as well as different poems by other authors.  It is thought that the Christmas reindeer was originally inspired by ancient Norse mythology around the god Thor, who was pulled in a chariot in the sky by magical goats. However it began, the reindeer has become a very popular symbol of Christmas, especially with children, and the eight reindeer pulling Santa in his sleigh represent good things to come.  Songs like 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' indicate that they are not to be taken too seriously but treated as a symbol of fun and even represent the quirky side of Christmas.  Our cute sitting reindeer fits this description very nicely.
