    The legend of Santa travelling through the skies in a gift-filled sleigh pulled by flying reindeer has been one of the favourite holiday stories of children all over the world for centuries.     The legend of Santa and the reindeer may have originated in Scandinavia with the ancient Norse myth of Thor, the God of Thunder. Thor was said to fly through stormy skies in a chariot pulled by two flying goats, known as Gnasher and Cracker. One of the first mentions of reindeer transporting Santa, his sleigh, and his famous sack stuffed with gifts, was in a poem written by Clement Moore. First published in the New York Sentinel on December 23, 1823, the poem, entitled A Visit from St. Nicholas, later became the classic ‘Twas the Night before Christmas.
